Our 4th In Pictures

Did everyone have a fun 4th?  The forth of July has always been my favorite holiday. I'm really lucky to live in an area that knows how to celebrate the forth right. There are so many fun things to do around us this time of year. We kept really busy for our long weekend. And it's taken a few days to recover and get back into our regular routine, but here's our late update about the 4th of July.

To start things off, J was invited to go swimming at the rec center with her friend. She had a rough day the day before and she was super excited about going. M was pretty bummed that she didn't get to go, but she got to come to run some errands with me and choose a special surprise if she didn't throw any fits.  She chose pretty carefully and finally decided on this fishing game.  It kept her busy for quite a while.

When they got home from swimming, they had another surprise for M! They brought her home an ice cream cone.

Then, after dinner we went to the store to get our fireworks, and also this grill. Our old grill was on it's last leg and this one was on sale. So Christmas in July for Trevon! We spent Friday night, after the girls were in bed, setting it up.

Saturday morning was an early start so we could go to the balloon festival.  We didn't get to see them take off but we got there in time to see them flying around and starting to land.

After the balloons, we headed home to get some breakfast and get ready for the rest of the day. We spent some time at the Freedom Festival.  This was the girl's favorite thing.  A Jumparoo they had on display to try out.

We didn't spend as much time as we'd planned at the festival, so we decided to go to the Puppy Barn to kill some time.  The girls sure loved this black lab and asked several times if we could take it home. We don't currently live in a great dog place so they will have to wait.

While we waited for dinner time, we went to Barns and Noble to get out of the sun for a little while and read some books. The girls loved Trevon reading to them. They love when we can do family things like that and they thing Trevon is way funnier (and cooler) than me. After a while of reading, we headed to IHOP for brinner. We don't normally go out for breakfast food, but we had a gift card. Our waiter was one of the best waiters ever. She was super nice and completely genuine.  She even left us this sweet little note on our receipt. I could go on about tipping, but I wont. I'll just say she got a good tip. If you want to be tipped, be like her.

The girls still weren't ready to go home. So we went to the park to run the rest of their energy out so we could go to bed and get a good nights rest.

Every 4th of July, my grandparents hold a breakfast in their back yard. It's not something you want to miss. I woke up with V around 5:30 and by the time he was done eating, I figured I'd better just get going so I could be ready to go to breakfast when everyone else woke up. So I started out with a little ab work out. Then finished getting ready.

We headed over to breakfast: French toast (with three different syrups), fruit, hash browns, sausage, bacon and juice or milk. All made on a grill. And if you don't know the difference between regularly cooked food and anything cooked on a camping stove, dutch oven, or grill, you need to try it out. Theres just a better taste sometimes. We had plans afterwords to go to the airport and see some WWII airplanes, thinking there would be several to look at.  But when we got there, we only saw two and decided it wasn't worth paying the money to go see two airplanes. Maybe next year they will have more.

Because the airport was kind of a flop, we went home and tried to entertain the girls a little bit until our next plans came up.  Trevon made a little house out of the grill box. That entertained the girls for a while. They colored pictures to decorate all the walls inside and played in there for a little while before lunch time.

Next up was swimming. These girls are like little fish and can't get enough of the water.  I remember being the same way growing up.

Since I'm still waiting on the OK to go swimming, I just relaxed on the lawn chair and hung out with V.

We went home for a quick dinner and to make cookies to take to my Uncle's house for his annual "Streetium of Fire".  It was a good one this year, we didn't get to stay the whole time since it was already way past the kids bed times. But we were glad we went to some of it.

We had a great 4th! I hope all of you did too.

What is your favorite holiday?

What was the best part of your weekend?
