Fast Friday Favorites

It's Friday, which means we survived the first full week of summer. The rest of summer should now be fun and happy.  It usually takes me about a week to adjust to having all the kids home all day. Not that it's a lot different from our regular schedule, J is the only one in school full time right now anyway. But it does make a difference. Here's what we did for the first week of our summer.

Friday was the last day of school and the first day of swimming! The kids couldn't wait for another second to get in the pool.

Friday night we worked a little bit on the camper. We had to custom build a vent for the heater. They don't make this kind of heater anymore so they also don't sell the parts for it and our camper was missing the cover for it. So we built a wood frame big enough that it wouldn't touch the metal and painted it. And then we put some grating in it and mounted it on with some clips that we can take it off and on when needed.  I've said it a million times and I'll say it again. I love the gray we used for the camper.

Saturday morning started off with a long run. It was already really warm when I set out and I struggled a little bit. That's weird because I used to love running in the heat, it never bothered me before but now I would rather run first thing in the morning when it's cooler.

I hit my elbow really hard while I was getting ready for my run and I had to stop and take a picture to see if it was bruised because it hurt so bad.

Then we swam again for a little while before going out to dinner. We don't go out to eat very often so it's always a big deal when we do!

Monday we spent the morning hiking with the family. We hiked Stewart Falls which is something I've never done even though I've lived here my whole life. So it was super fun to cross it off my bucket list.

I've been able to run outside more often in the mornings and I'm loving watching the sun come up while I'm running again. I've also been feeling really strong on my runs lately which is really nice.

Wednesday we went swimming again but not for long because a big rainstorm decided to show up right after we got in.

Thursday was full of to-do list stuff to get ready for a campout we have coming up.

This week's workouts looked like this:

Saturday: long run --> 6 miles

Sunday: Rest day

Monday: Hiking with the family ---> 4 miles

Tuesday: Tempo run --> 3 miles

Wednesday: Tempo run ---> 4.5 miles

Thursday: long run --> 5.5 miles. This was supposed to be 6.5 miles but I made a wrong turn and it cut off a whole mile of my run. This is why I think I need a Garmin. I was not happy about it but it still counts as a long run!

Friday: Rest day

I had to switch up my workout a little bit this week to make sure that I wouldn't miss any important runs in the next little while here.

My favorite finds of this week:

These candy sticks. I looked everywhere for them and they don't seem to sell them in stores around here anymore. I finally found some at Deseret Book. But if you don't have one of those near you, you can find them HERE too.  I'll talk more about what I'm going to do with these later, but they are also really good to just suck on like a candy cane.

These shoes. I got M some (J already has a nice pair of these and V won't be doing a lot of walking during the hikes we will be using these for) And then I got me some. I have tiny feet. TINY! So a lot of times I have to shop in the kids section for shoes. They are usually cheaper this way...but sometimes they just look like kid shoes, ya know? These will do though.

Janae from Hungry Runner Gril posted this video on her blog yesterday and it was exactly what I needed to help my running form right now. I have some major hip drop issues going on and I'm pretty sure it's caused a lot of my injuries. This video talks about engaging your glutes while you run and I decided that I'll be working on this for the next little while now.
